Watch Kurt Vile and Street Artist ESPO Make the Cover Art for His New Album Wakin on a Pretty Daze

This year Kurt Vile will release a new album, Wakin on a Pretty Daze, the follow-up to 2011's excellent Smoke Ring for My Halo. Today his label Matador has shared a video documenting the production of the record's cover art. For the image, the graffiti and mural artist Stephen Powers aka ESPO painted a commercial-like mural of its title on a wall alongside a train in Philadelphia. He also interpreted many of the album's lyrics into a collection of icons.

Check out the clip, directed by Don Argott, below. It also finds ESPO musing on how Vile fits into Philly's industrial landscape, and his own longstanding crack-is-whack ethos. Also below, watch Vile do "Freeway" at the 2011 Pitchfork Music Festival.

Listen: Two New Mixtapes from Das Racist's Kool A.D., With Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock, Pictureplane, More

Kool A.D. (aka Victor Vazquez) of the now-disbanded Das Racist continues to churn out new material at a rate almost apace with Lil B's. As promised, yesterday, he released two new collections of outtakes and collaborations-- 19 and 63-- both named after Bay Area bus lines. The tapes feature a huge slew of guests, including Pictureplane, Young L, SKYWLKR, Keyboard Kid, Trackdemicks, Fat Tony, Mike Finito, Lakutis and Spank Rock.

There's also a contribution from the Beastie Boys' Ad-Rock, who made a beat for Das Racist that was nearly shelved altogether. "It's kind of a dinky beat, really," Kool A.D. told Fader. "I know that Heems and Dap weren't really feeling it. I was like, I don't care either way, I’m sure we could do something on it that would be all right. I forgot about it for a couple years then I was cleaning out my emails and found it again and was like, Imma get on this."

Download 63 here and 19 here, via Fader, or stream both at Bandcamp. Check out the very zonked and based video for 19 cut "Eroika" after the tracklists.

Watch/Listen: Iron & Wine Plays New Songs "Caught in the Briars" and "The Waves of Galveston"

Last week, Sam Beam's Iron & Wine announced a new album, Ghost on Ghost. The follow-up to 2011's Kiss Each Other Clean, out April 16 in the U.S. via Nonesuch and April 15 abroad via 4AD. Along with the previously shared "Lovers' Revolution", we've now got another glimpse of the record.

Beam recently visited Austin radio station KUT, as TwentyFourBit points out. Backed by a mandolin player, Beam played the new record's opener "Caught in the Briars", footage of which is below. He also played the new, non-album cut "The Waves of Galveston", available to download above, via KUT.

Electronic Producer Isolée Soundtracks a Nightmarish Fairytale in Video for "Allowance"

Electronic producer Isolée has shared the video for "Allowance", in which a female protagonist has a looking-glass experience that becomes an evil, nightmarish fairytale. It begins in her bedroom and ends in a vampiric scene with lots of fake blood. The track comes from Isolée's Allowance EP, out February 13 via Pampa.

Listen to a New Song From Thee Oh Sees: "Minotaur"

On April 16, prolific San Francisco psych rockers Thee Oh Sees will release Floating Coffintheir followup to 2012's great Putrifiers II, via frontman John Dwyer's Castle Face label. Today, the band has shared the record's closer, "Minotaur", which takes on more of a singer-songwriter structure than typical Thee Oh Sees, and even features some strings.

As mentioned, Dwyer says the new album comes from "the mindset of a world that's perpetually war-ridden" and is "pretty dark, and much heavier than our other albums."

Joey Ramone's Record Collection Up for Auction

Now is your chance to own Joey Ramone's record collection. Billboard reports that 97 vinyl albums once owned by the late punk icon will be up for auction online February 14 through February 21. Records from Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Led Zeppelin, the Beach Boys, Patti Smith, Jimi Hendrix, T. Rex, the Kinks, the Human League, and more will be included.

Along with the records, other items from Ramone's estate will also be up for auction, including two guitars, handwritten lyrics, his passport, and his Rolodex filer collecting his various music industry contacts. There will also be several garments of Ramone's clothing, including 140 T-shirts, a leather jacket, and sunglasses. All of the items will be accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Joey's brother, Mickey Leigh.

The minimum bid for the record collection starts at $500. RR Auction says the records are in good condition but have some creases and small tears.

School of Seven Bells' Benjamin Curtis Diagnosed With Cancer

Alley Deheza of School of Seven Bells has posted unfortunate news on the band's Facebook page today. This week, her bandmate Benjamin Curtis was hospitalized and, after dozens of tests, diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma.

Deheza wrote that "it developed pretty aggressively" and Curtis will need "aggressive" chemotherapy treatments, but "the good news is that it's TREATABLE." She added, "These next few months will be tough, but he is the toughest person I know (even while here, he was trying to figure out a way to sample the MRI)."

The band's most recent record, Ghostory, was released last year.

Hear the New Devendra Banhart Track "Mi Negrita"

Devendra Banhart will release his next album, Mala, on March 12 via his new label home, Nonesuch. He's already shared two tracks from it, "Für Hildegard von Bingen" and "Never Seen Such Good Things", and now he's let go a third, "Mi Negrita". (Listen below.)

According to the label's website, the Spanish-language track was inspired by Banhart "envisioning himself 'in an oversized suit, slightly sweaty' on the set of the Venezuelan variety show 'Súper Sábado Sensacional', a program he'd watch as a child growing up in Caracas in the 80s."

In a statement, Banhart explained that he can "take things further" while singing in Spanish. He said:

In Spanish, I can have a lot more flexibility. I have a limited vocabulary-- in English and in Spanish-- but with Spanish I can get more into the sound of the words, I can have more fun with it. I can even get more autobiographical in Spanish. I feel comfortable revealing more, expressing something sincere about trauma or pain, which is not really a space I'm comfortable occupying.

Keith Morris Recovering From Diabetic Coma, OFF! Cancel West Coast Tour

Photo via OFF!'s Instagram

Keith Morris, frontman of OFF!-- and the just-formed Black Flag reunion project FLAG-- is currently recovering from a diabetic coma, Rolling Stone reports. OFF! have had to cancel their tour of the West Coast, which was supposed to begin yesterday.

According to Rolling Stone, Morris slipped into the coma after returning from the Australian festival Big Day Out last month, and skipping lunch. He told the magazine:

I'm a diabetic and I failed to eat lunch. Came back, hung out with my girlfriend, and the whole idea was that we were going to do what grown-ups do-- go take a nap and go get something to eat. I should have eaten first. So we did what we did, and I passed out. As I passed out, I actually blacked out and went into a diabetic-induced coma. So I'm kind of like the T-shirt that's been sitting in the dryer for three days.

Hopefully Morris is fully recovered by the time FLAG start touring.  ( Another version of the reunited Black Flag is also touring this year.

Jeff Mangum, Passion Pit, Raekwon, More Shows Postponed or Cancelled Due to Blizzard

If you live in the Northeast, you're probably preparing for your weekend plans to be derailed by the blizzard that those in charge have named "Nemo". Artists planning shows in the area are taking precautions, and some have cancelled or postponed performances scheduled this weekend. So far, the following shows have been impacted:

-- Jeff Mangum has postponed this evening's show in Hartford, Connecticut-- that show has already been rescheduled for Monday, February 11.

-- Passion Pit have moved tomorrow night's show in Boston to February 10, but are still on tonight in New York at Madison Square Garden. All tickets for the postponed Boston show will be honored on February 10, and refunds will be available.

-- Raekwon and Rakim have pushed back their joint performance at New York's Stage 48 tonight to an as-yet-unannounced date in March.

-- George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic's show tonight at the House of Blues in Boston has been pushed to February 13.

-- Gojira and the Atlas Moth's show tonight at Irving Plaza in New York City has been postponed until February 19.

-- The Heliotropes' show at the Paper Box in Brooklyn has been canceled.

There's also a chance that this weekend's Grammy Awards will be impacted. With thousands of flights cancelled, there's been speculation that some artists won't make it to the show.

Lil Wayne Sued Over Alleged Involvement in Skateboard Attack

TMZ reports that Lil Wayne has been sued for his alleged involvement in an assault. Back in May, a man named Alfredo Marino saw Wayne on the streets of Los Angeles and tried to take a photo. Then, one of Wayne's associates allegedly attacked Marino by hitting him in the head with a skateboard.

In his lawsuit, Marino claims he suffered a severe injury due to the attack and has accused Wayne of "enabling the attacker." He's suing for unspecified damages.

Wayne has had a few legal troubles in the recent past. Last year, he unsuccessfully tried to sue Quincy Jones III over The Carter documentary.
