Today Pitchfork.tv on YouTube presents a mini-documentary on Nick Zammuto, a.k.a. Zammuto, formerly of the Books, directed by Matt Day. The film, Shape of Things to Come, draws its title from the Zammuto song of the same name, from his recent self-titled LP. It's part of Day's series Naked Musicians, which captures intimate portraits of musicians in Vermont.
Here, Day visits Zammuto on the farm where he lives with his family, during the creation of the album. Zammuto goes into his creative process and talks about his self-built studio and self-sustaining lifestyle, living on a farm and growing his own food.
Around the three-minute mark, Zammuto builds a beat by scratching the center of an LP. On his current tour (dates below), he'll have limited edition LPs that similarly have "beats" scratched in by hand.
