Watch the Men's Video for "Electric"

New York rock'n'roll band the Men will release their next record, New Moon, March 5 via Sacred Bones. (It's the followup to last year's great Open Your Heart.) In advance of the album, they've shared the music video for the record's first single "Electric", shot last June at a chaotic (and seemingly very fun) gig in London. Watch the clip, directed by Teresa Dorothea, below.

The Men are touring almost nonstop from now until June; check out their recently announced North American dates here.

At the Drive-In to Reissue Acrobatic Tenement and Relationship of Command

At the Drive-In's reunion tour may have ended, but the band members aren't finished with their past just yet. (And with the Mars Volta's recent breakup, might there be more of a future for ATDI than we thought?) This spring, the band will reissue their 1996 debut album Acrobatic Tenement and their final album, 2000's Relationship of Command.

Acrobatic Tenement will be released March 5 worldwide and March 25 in the UK, while Relationship of Command will be released on April 22. Both will be available in digital, CD and vinyl formats, and Relationship of Command will be sold on limited color vinyl for Record Store Day on April 20.

The band's own label, Twenty-First Chapter Records, will release the reissues in the U.S. Transgressive will release them in the UK and Europe. In Canada, they will be released by Dine Alone, Stop/Start in Australia and New Zealand, and in Japan, Daymare Recordings/Disk Union.

In a press release, guitarist Jim Ward said, "It was interesting to revisit the recordings that bookended the first chapters of our band. The earnest and pure excitement of the beginning and the level of craftsmanship we achieved by Relationship of Command leaves me nothing but proud. I am happy these records have found their way to continue to feel new as people discover music they love and embrace our work."

Tyler, the Creator Is on the New Miley Cyrus Album, on a Track Co-Written With Mary J. Blige

Photos by Erez Avissar

Former teen pop queen and "Hannah Montana" star Miley Cyrus has a new album out this year. Tyler, the Creator of Odd Future is featured on that album. In an interview with the magazine Cosmopolitan (via MTV), Cyrus said Tyler guests on a track she wrote with Mary J. Blige, of all people.

Cyrus told Cosmopolitan:

I wrote this song with Mary J. Blige, and Tyler, the Creator heard it and said, 'I am obsessed with this song, and I will guest on it if you promise me that you will keep it on the album.' And he killed it!

If Miley Cyrus was still the teen idol she once was, the idea of Tyler, the Creator having direct access to the ears of a predominantly teenage/female fanbase is literally my worst nightmare; hopefully her audience has changed in recent years.

For Blige, this is at least less weird than that Burger King commercial she tried to do last year.

Björk Launches Kickstarter for Android/Windows Versions of Biophilia App

Björk's album/multimedia project Biophilia just keeps going. She's now launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of the Biophilia app for Android and Windows 8 to make it more accessible in schools across the world. (It's already available through Apple's App Store for iOS devices.)

The app, which features a mini-app to go along with each of the album's ten songs, is being used as part of the Biophilia Educational Program, a program developed by Bjork to teach children about science and music. In addition to the iPad versions being implemented in schools, the creators have "received lots of international requests for alternate versions of the app, many of which have come from areas with families on low incomes and schools with low budgets," the Kickstarter page reads.

Björk writes:

the biophilia educational program is a new way to teach children about science and music . it has met with success in many cities, sparking interest from kids and educators all over the world, from south america to east asia to africa. the most interest has come from students from low-income households and schools with underfunded art budgets, and the only way to bring the project to those people is to have biophilia reprogrammed for android and windows 8. the biophilia educational project is strictly non-profit and volunteer-based, and that's why we need your help.

The Kickstarter's funding goal is £375,000; pledging ends on February 27. Prizes awarded to funders include the app itself, t-shirts, picture discs, lithographic prints, DVDs, credit within the app, and much more.

In a press release announcing the Kickstarter, it's mentioned that Björk will bring the Biophilia live experience to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, in addition to the previously announced Paris residency. Those who pledge £800 or more to the Kickstarter will get a VIP pass to one of those shows.

Wavves: "Demon to Lean On" on SoundCloud.

Wavves' new album Afraid of Heights is out March 26 via Mom + Pop. And after divulging a few album details and sharing the track "Sail to the Sun", the band has offered the tracklist, artwork, and a new song from the King of the Beach follow up. Check out "Demon to Lean On" above.

Afraid of Heights is available for pre-order now. You can buy it on vinyl, with a bunch of pins, with a t-shirt, and with Nathan Williams' Negative Dad comics. Or on iTunes.

The duo of Williams and Stephen Pope are heading out on an enormous North American tour behind the album. Check out their dates with FIDLAR and Cheatahs below.

Williams discussed the overall tone of the new album in a press release:

"The general theme of the record is depression and anxiety, being death-obsessed and paranoid of impending doom. I feel like the narration is almost schizophrenic if you listen front to back; every word is important, even the constant contradictions and lack of self-worth. That's all a part of this record-questioning everything not because I'm curious, but because I'm paranoid."

The press release also notes that Williams paid for the album's sessions out-of-pocket. As previously reported, Afraid of Heights will feature guest work from Jenny Lewis, Rilo Kiley frontwoman and bearer of pot cookies.

Watch the Flaming Lips' Hyundai Super Bowl Ad

For indie rock bands, the stigma that once came along with licensing music to commercials has faded a bit over the years. However, most commercials don't actually star the band members themselves.

The Flaming Lips have partnered with Hyundai for a 60-second commercial that will air during the Super Bowl on February 3. They have written the new song "Sun Blows Up Today" for the ad. They also appear in the commercial, which has now surfaced, and is available to check out below, via Billboard. (The embed isn't working at the moment, but you can watch it on Billboard's site.)

The spot sees the band pop up in a family's kitchen, around breakfast, before jamming on their roof (as depicted above) and embarking on an "Epic Playdate", as the commercial has been pegged. The adventure involves skateboarding and several chase scenes with cops, bikers, and animals. Wayne Coyne's famous space bubble even makes an appearance.

"Sun Blows Up Today" will be included as a bonus track with the iTunes release of Flaming Lips' upcoming record The Terror, out April 2 in the U.S. and April 1 in the UK via through Bella Union and Warner Bros.

Here's the Hyundai-funded lyric video for "Sun Blows Up Today":

New MGMT Album Tentatively Due in June, Influenced by Aphex Twin

The new issue of Rolling Stone features an interview with MGMT, who are readying the follow-up to 2010's bizarre gear-shift CongratulationsRolling Stone says that the album is tentatively scheduled for release in June, following nearly a year of work at producer Dave Fridmann's Tarbox Road Studios in upstate New York.

Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden recorded the whole thing themselves, rather than using a full band, as they did on Congratulations. They told RS that the new songs are influenced by Aphex Twin and house music.

Songs have titles like "Mystery Disease" and "Alien Days", and  there's also a cover of "Introspection" by the 60s garage band Faine Jade. Ben Goldwasser says the band are "not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it... There's no illusion on [Columbia Records'] part that that we're going to turn into a Top 40 band."

The New !!! Album Is Called THR!!!ER

!!! will release their fifth long-player on April 30 in the U.S. and April 29 in the UK via Warp, and here's what it's called: THR!!!ER. Yes, THR!!!ER. In addition to having the best album title of 2013 (other than The Chronicles of Marnia), one of the songs on it is called "Californiyeah". Awesome.

Guitarist Mario Andreoni spelled out the ambitious meaning of the album title in the LP's press release:

Over the course of many long van rides and post-coffee verbal riff sessions, Thriller didn't merely come to represent the selling of a lot of records...it became synonymous with an artist(s)' and/or genre(s)' artistic high-watermark. INXS' Kick is the Australian Thriller...Alanis' Jagged Little Pill is the Canadian Thriller...Wham!'s Make It Big is the blow-dryer's Thriller...every recording by the 13th Floor Elevators is the dosed-man's Thriller..."Sister Ray" by the Velvet Underground is the Thriller of musical fever dreams. One day at the studio, Nic [Offer, vocalist] drew THR!!!ER on a napkin and I liked it...then we made our THR!!!ER.

The follow-up to 2011's Strange Weather, Isn't It? was partially recorded with Spoon's Jim Eno.

THR!!!ER:

01 Even When the Water's Cold
02 Get That Rhythm Right
03 One Girl/One Boy
04 Fine Fine Fine
05 Slyd
06 Californiyeah
07 Except Death
08 Careful
09 Station (Meet Me at The)
