Wavves Detail Upcoming Album Afraid of Heights, Featuring a Guest Spot From Jenny Lewis

Last year, Wavves shared a new track and video, "Sail to the Sun", taken from the band's upcoming album on new label Mom + Pop. The record, titled Afraid of Heights, will be out March 26, as SPIN reports.

As Wavves' Nathan Williams and Stephen Pope tell SPIN, the record is more "honest" and bigger in sound, the latter of which should come at no surprise, considering they worked with producer John Hill, who has previously worked with M.I.A., Santigold, and Rihanna. According to SPIN, they spent "an entire year in the studio," and Williams says he was "listening to [Weezer's] The Blue Album every day, almost on repeat."

Furthering the pop-punk appeal, the title track has also got a guest spot from Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley. (And it turns out she also contributed vocals to the band's Adult Swim single "Hippies Is Punks".) Pope told SPIN that Lewis brought the band "weed cookies" in the studio.

Williams said this record finds him coming down to earth a bit from his previous efforts:

I feel like I was a real cocky motherfucker when I first started doing this. I really believed I was the shit. Now, not so much, but as a songwriter, I think I'm better. You know the tone of King of the Beach and the first two records? Like, I 'got no car, got no money,' but, I still got my parents' house to live in so it's not that bad. It could have been much worse, and now, my parents have no money and I'm paying their rent while I'm paying my mortgage. In general, the realness of life starts to hit you later on. That's more prominent on this record.
