Watch: Big Boi Discusses the Making of Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors, Working With A$AP Rocky

On December 11, Big Boi will finally release his new album, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. He recently sat down with Pitchfork.tv to chat about the making of the album. Lies follows 2010's excellent Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty and features (deep breath) Little Dragon, Jai Paul, Wavves, A$AP Rocky, Killer Mike, T.I., Kelly Rowland, UGK, Big K.R.I.T., Kid Cudi, and Phantogram.

Along with discussing his perpetual search for a singular sound and the natural high of making music, Big Boi described the experience of collaborating with A$AP Rocky:

I bumped into him at V103 in Atlanta, and I was doing an interview. I never met him before. He was a fan of the Kast's music. What he did was-- I told him I was going to the studio and he was like, shit I'm coming over there with you. Thirty minutes later he was in the booth writing. We just vibed out for a minute. It's organically created, never genetically modified.

Regarding the eclecticism of the LP, Big Boi said:

You listen to my records and no two songs sound alike. I like to keep it that way; you want to explore, but they all embody the same spirit of the sound, it's one cohesive body of work. You can push play from beginning to end and get to gist of what I'm saying.

Big Boi also commented on his decision to release the record so late in the year. "When it's right, it's right," he said. "When it's ready, it's ready."
