Glitter, gossip, sex, iPhones, and a Wayne Coyne cameo-- here's the clip for Amanda Palmer's Theatre Is Evil cut "Do It With a Rockstar", directed by herself, Coyne, George Salisbury, and Michael McQuilken. The video, which contains some nudity, centers on the before and after of a wild Palmer rock show, filmed in Oklahoma City. Some scenes were filmed in Coyne's house.
The clip opens with a group of glammed-out drag queens in a dressing room, arguing about the singer-- "the bitch doesn't shave", "that's art, bitch"-- before flipping to a scene of smart phone drones bickering about her, too. (Palmer calls it "the hipster scene" in a lengthy blog post about the shoot.) "Did you know she's a scientologist?" asks a girl in a "Pave-adoh" shirt. "She hates everything." The whole piece could allude to the recent conversation surrounding Palmer's attempt at crowdsourcing unpaid backup musicians.
Palmer also recently replaced Erykah Badu in the Flaming Lips' controversial "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" video. Listen for a Badu reference at the :50 mark in "Do It With a Rockstar".
After the clip, check out a picture of Coyne on the set, taken by Palmer (via her blog).
