Here it is, at last. Dirty Projectors' Hi Custodian, a short film written and directed by David Longstreth. It stars Longstreth, in addition to band members Amber Coffman, Haley Dekle, Nat Baldwin, and Mike Johnson, and was produced by Pitchfork.tv on YouTube.
Longstreth describes Hi Custodian as being "made out of a dream." "It was so fun getting into these alternate personas, inhabiting them, and I think we came up with some amazing images."
Inspired by music films like Kanye West's Runaway and Prince's Purple Rain, it follows the band members through a surreal narrative about spiritual death and rebirth. The film features several recordings and alternate versions of new Dirty Projectors songs, in addition to other new and unreleased music from the Swing Lo Magellan album sessions.
