Traditionally, summer has been a time for lists at Pitchfork, a time for us to cover the best albums and tracks of entire decades. This month, we're doing something a little different: we want to hear what you think. So, that in mind, we're organizing a poll of our readers' favorite albums since Pitchfork began (1996-2011). We're calling it The People's List.
Voting begins today and runs through 11:59 p.m. on August 17. You should list at least 20 albums but no more than 100. (Ballots with fewer than 20 albums will not be considered.)
To help us break down the results in a variety of interesting ways, we'll start by asking you to answer a few questions about who you are and the music you generally listen to. This information is optional. However, these answers will be kept confidential and will only be used for analyzing poll results. Ultimately, you'll be able to cross-reference data to see how specific variables affected the outcome of the list.
Note that you can work on your ballot up until the final deadline. Progress will be saved automatically once you log in, which also means your ballot will be waiting for you if you want to come back and make changes later on. When you're finished, you can share your list with friends via Facebook and Twitter. If you like, you can even write a little something about your #1 pick for possible inclusion in the final feature. All ballots will be tabulated when the poll closes on August 17.
